Initial premise of the Autonomous Women's Center is that policies, in order to fight against violence against women, at the local and national level should be consistent with international standards and good practices in this field. In accordance with the strategic goals, that the Convention of the United Nations and the Council of Europe should be implemented well by the state and that in the process of joining the European Union we must respect the human rights of women, Autonomous Women's Center consistently monitors the implementation of and advocates for a comprehensive, coherent, relevant, specific, efficient and effective national policies against violence against women.

The first annual report of the Observatory for monitoring violence against women, an independent expert, a monitoring and analytical body, which was formed in late 2011 with the aim to monitor, analyze and report on the situation in the area of violence against women in Serbia, was written by the members of the Observatory: Biljana Branković, Tanja Ignjatović, Slađana Jovanović, Marija Lukić, Vanja Macanović and Zorica Mršević.

The report represents a critical voice of civil society organizations dealing with the problem of violence against women, policies and practices to protect women in Serbia, provides recommendations and guidelines and suggests ways of working in this field. The next report of the Observatory will be published in March 2014.
