
Dijana Malbaša and Aleksandra Nestorov from Autonomous Women's Center participated in the Forum„From Conflict to peace? Women and Girl’s Voices on the Move“, which was organized on 2nd of June in Brussels by the European Women’s Lobby and Women’s Refugee Commission. This event was attended by the representatives of organizations-EWL members, representatives of the European Commission, UNHCR, Council of Europe and other institutions and international organizations.
Topics discussed at this Forum included the current refugee crisis in Greece and Turkey, which requires an urgent response aimed at preventing gender-based violence, as well as practice and measures to be taken in this order in certain European countries and at the EU level. Dijana Malbaša presented the current situation in Serbia regarding the position of refugees and the process of drafting the new Law on Asylum and Temporary Protection.
As far as the protection of women and girls from gender-based violence is concerned, panelists at the Forum pointed out that it is needed to create a gender-based policies and procedures in regard to asylum and adopt and implement the standards of the Council of Europe Convention on Violence against Women. Furthermore, recommendations of the EWL and WRC were presented for prevention of and response to violence against women and girls affected by the refugee crisis.
