Within the framework of the Ženijalno! debate programme of the Mikser Festival, Tanja Ignjatović and Vanja Macanović from Autonomous Women’s Center, together with representatives of Women Judges Association of Serbia, delivered their speeches in the panel „Domestic violence and discrimination against women in Serbia“.
Members of the Women Judges Association of Serbia have presented their objectives and the debate was focused on issues related to the legal system for protection against domestic violence. It was said that Serbia had good regulation in this area, but its application in practice often is not adequate. Panellists pointed out that the Council of Europe Convention on Violence against Women was ratified in 2013, but still nothing has been done regarding its implementation, neither through law changes nor its direct application by representatives of judiciary.
The panellists announced cooperation between the Autonomous Women’s Center and Women Judges Association of Serbia in the form of discussion on the existing legal solutions and problems, with the aim to enable faster and more complete justice for all women victims of violence.
