24/4/2015, Belgrade: Autonomous Women’s Center has submitted to the Ministry of Interior amendments to the Draft Law on Police, requiring introduction of emergency barring orders in accordance with the Council of Europe Convention on violence against women.

By adopting this proposal, the police would be granted the power to order a perpetrator of domestic violence to vacate the residence of the victim for 14 days and to prohibit the perpetrator from contacting the victim in order to prevent further violence. These measures would be imposed by the police officers in the form of a Decision within a maximum of 48 hours from reporting of an event, with the duration of 14 days. The proposal was modeled on the Austrian Law on Police and other related laws.

AWC amendments to the Law on Police are available in Serbian in the attachment.
