The Autonomous Women's Center welcomes the report "Prostitution and violence against women and girls" by the UN Special Rapporteur on violence against women and girls, Mrs. Reem Alsalem, which was presented at the 56th session of the United Nations Human Rights Council. The AWC sent the report to numerous ministries, independent bodies and committees of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia that oversee human rights, with the hope that they will take into consideration the recommendations that the Special Rapporteur makes to the states.

The report exhaustively points out the violence to which women and girls are exposed in prostitution and gives specific recommendations to countries in the direction of decriminalizing women and girls, and focusing on responsibility and sanctioning of users and pimps. In this sense, the report takes a strong abolitionist position and represents the success of the women's movement around the world, which has been pointing out the human rights violations of women and girls in prostitution for decades.

The report is based on more than 300 contributions from a wide range of stakeholders from around the world that were submitted as part of a consultation process. The Autonomous Women's Center also sent its contribution.
