On the occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, on November 23rd, the Autonomous Women's House Zagreb held a round table, "The importance of GREVIO recommendations for fighting violence against women."
The Autonomous Women's House Zagreb lawyer, Sanja Bezbradica Jelavić, spoke on the topic "GREVIO recommendations, implementation of the law in practice and case studies," and independent expert Nataša Škrbić on "Justification of rejecting the concept of parental alienation in Croatia and the necessity of implementing all recommendations of GREVIO supervisory mechanisms, and the UN Special Rapporteur on violence against women and girls."
Tanja Ignjatović, AWC education, research, and advocacy program coordinator, and Vanja Macanović, AWC lawyer, also participated in the round table. Tanja Ignjatović spoke about the worrying trend of applying the pseudo-scientific "alienation concept," which is banned in the Republic of Croatia, in Serbia, and Vanja Macanović spoke on the topic "Femicides that could(n't) have been prevented."
In the discussion that followed, the participants highlighted the importance of implementing GREVIO recommendations in the practice of all institutions that work with women who survived intimate partner violence and their children.
The round table was attended by the Minister of Labour, Pension System, Family and Social Policy, Marin Piletić, and the Deputy Mayor of the City of Zagreb, Danijela Dolenc.
