16 days of activism against violence against women is a global and international campaign that started in 1991 and is marked by more than 1,700 organizations in over 100 countries around the world.
The campaign officially starts on November 25 - the International Day for Fighting Violence Against Women and lasts until December 10 - International Human Rights Day. During this period, the campaign will include several other important dates related to combat violence against women, linking the issues of women, violence and human rights.
Autonomous Women's Center this year leads a campaign called Do you see violence against women? The aim of this action is the mobility of political, social and general public in order to initiate joint actions of prevention and combating violence against women. Statistical data in the report of the Secretary-General, Kofi Annan, for 2006, show that 40% to 70% of homicides against women are committed by their (former) partners. And how Serbia is struggling with this problem? There is still no national strategy against violence against women, there are no statistics about increasing or reducing this social problem, nor coordinated work of authorities and institutions.
