Yesterday, on September 18, 2018, the second public discussion about the bad effects of the implementation of the Law on Financial Support to the Family with Children was held in the Small Hall of the City Municipality of Stari grad. The discussion was attended by pregnant women to whom the recent Law came into force, representatives of non-governmental organizations, political organizations and one interested future father.
Vanja Macanović from the Autonomous Women's Center referred to the provision regarding the condition for payment of children's allowance for children attending, or not attending, regular primary and secondary school. She pointed out that children, who are one of the most vulnerable social groups, often do not go to schools because they are forced to work with their parents so that the family can provide basic existential conditions. Additionally, the amount of child allowance is significantly lower in relation to the amount of resources needed for the life of a family that is on the verge of poverty, and parents are usually forced to engage their children.
